How the project started?

DOGECOIN launched in 2013 as a joke idea by Jackson Palmer — marketing-geek from Sydney with tech support of software-engineer Billy Markus from Portland. They released a fork of Litecoin in a couple of weeks. Community start growing and just in two months DOGECOIN capitalization amount had grown to $50 million. And for now, the capitalization amount has grown to hundreds of millions of dollars.

What was the idea behind the project?

In 2013 Bitcoin price grew up to $1000 and the world start taking cryptocurrencies as something serious. DOGECOIN is a project created contrary to the seriousness of business. It is a digital cash for friendly and convenient payments. Shiba Inu dog has become a mascot of the project due to the popularity of the “doge” meme in 2013.

How it works?

DOGECOIN is not about complicated technologies and bringing new solutions of the current crypto markets. This asset’s main role is to be a light and fast payment system, as a tipping payment or to serve for charity purposes.

  • In 2014, the Dogecoin community raised 50,000 US Dollars to help send the Jamaican Bobsled Team to the Sochi Winter Olympics.
  • For World Water Day (March 22nd 2014), loyal Shibes raised 30,000 US Dollars to help build clean-water wells in the Tana Valley, Kenya.
  • Shibes have even tried NASCAR (North-American Stock Car Auto Racing). In March 2014, Shibes paid 55,000 US Dollars to sponsor a driver named Josh Wise. Wise raced in a Dogecoin themed car!
